Ivey Hits 100 Wins as Irish Defeat vs Virginia 12-29-2024

History. For multiple people.

On Sunday, No. 3 Notre Dame (11-2, 2-0) cruised to a 95-54 victory over visiting Virginia (8-6, 0-2). Olivia Miles delivered her second consecutive double-double, registering 11 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high-tying 14 assists. With the performance, Miles now has six triple-doubles in her career, matching Maryland’s Alyssa Thomas for the most in ACC history. She also recorded her 500th career rebound, becoming just the third player in program history to accumulate 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists, joining Lindsay Allen and Skylar Diggins.

“It’s special,” Miles said after the game. “It’s even more special coming off a year where I didn’t play. It’s a testament to my rehab and the work I put in. Sitting out wasn’t easy, but I learned so much from it, and it’s enabled me to come back and do what I do.”

In addition to Miles’ historic performance, Head Coach Niele Ivey reached a significant milestone, earning her 100th career win in just 134 games. This sets a program record and makes her the fastest ACC coach to reach 100 wins at the start of their career.

“To see what we’ve manifested with this program is just unbelievable,” Ivey said. “I’m so grateful and really lucky to be the coach of this group.”

The game unfolded as many Irish games have this season, with a dominant start. Notre Dame seized control early, finishing the first quarter with a 16-0 run to take a 25-9 lead. Hannah Hidalgo hit two three-pointers and led all players with 12 points, while Sonia Citron contributed 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists, going 3-4 from the field.

The Irish continued their dominance in the second quarter, extending their run to 28-0—the longest of the season—before Virginia finally scored a free throw to end the drought. Miles and Liatu King stood out in the second, with Miles contributing 6 points and 5 rebounds, while King added 4 points and 6 rebounds. By halftime, Notre Dame led 43-19, holding Virginia to just 8-32 shooting and 1-10 from three.

Citron came out on fire in the third quarter, knocking down 4-5 from beyond the arc and staying perfect at the free-throw line (4-4). She finished the game with 25 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 5-9 from three. Hidalgo also had a stellar performance, scoring 28 points—marking the first time since 2019 that two Notre Dame players have scored 25 or more points in a conference game (Arike Ogunbowale and Jessica Shepard).

As a team, Notre Dame recorded 32 assists on 38 made field goals, the most assists in a conference game since joining the ACC.
